Paradise on the Backwaters

Life along the Keralan backwater canals just continues the dream I am having. I am drifting from paradise to paradise. Life here is more laid back than in the north or in the cities. Everyone travels by boat to go to school or work. The ladies scrub their laundry on the stones along the canal while wearing their nighties or walk along the waters edge holding colourful umbrellas. Ferry men bring people back and forth across the canal in canoe-like snake boats like it was the River Styx. Teeny tiny birds that look like oversized butterflies flit from bright flower to flower. There are sightings of long necked waterfowl and electric blue kingfishers. Almost everything you need grows on the trees, including toddy, the alcoholic beverage we are told is made from coconut flowers. I didn't even know coconuts had flowers. Images of Jesus watch over all this paradise, although sometimes he is Indian Jesus, and sometimes he's white guy Jesus.
